1. Me myself & I ask you! (or too much information?)

Hi, I’m (Dis)cardedfolderol. Old enough to know better and young enough to believe anything’s possible! Warmest welcome to my Tumblr celebrating all the crazy folderol that I love. I was once told that only boring people get bored, so I don’t. Ever! Hope you’ll find some touching places here with the things that make me smile, and might put a smile on your day too!

In a nutshell: Author, writer, poet, dreamer, synaesthete, introverted intuitive feeling perceiver, Enneagram Type 9 with an oversized 1 wing, incorrigible champion of compassion, courtesy and laughter, and a childlike lover of this thing called life!

Music: They Might Be Giants, John Linnell, (see above screencap from the 2011 TMBG Awareness Day fan video *cringes* -the llama’s representing my time working in Bolivia in the early 90s when a letter to me from TMBG to accompany the signed photo of John & John ended with the immortal words: “Kiss those llamas for us!”), 80s music in general (and 60s, 70s, 90s, 21st century too!) Sparks, Kate Bush, New Order, Morrissey & The Smiths, Beatles, R.E.M., Scritti Politti, June Tabor, Kate Rusby, Ella Fitzgerald, Mike Scott (Waterboys), New Wave, Devo, Brian Dewan, Marc Almond, UK charts, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Fox, clever lyrics combined with great melodies/harmonies, Bach, Holst, Vaughan Williams and so very much more

Art: Pre-Raphaelites (Holman Hunt, Millais, Madox Brown, Arthur Hughes, Inchbold, Waterhouse), Brueghel, Velazquez, da Vinci, Rembrandt, Celtic Art

Reads: Biography, Real Crime, factual, fiction (Fave novel of all time is L.P. Hartley’s “The Go Between”).

Passions: Writing, birdwatching (with a bit of very amateurish digiscoping!), music, the natural world, animals, family history (genealogy), the sea, the universe, bicycles, clocks and watches, psychology, old films, esp. Gregory Peck, Ruby Keeler etc, chocolate, courtesy, compassion, comedy, (loads inc Monty Python, The Goodies - the first crush I can remember was probably Tim Brooke-Taylor - , Adam and Joe, Stephen Fry, Steve Coogan, Dawn French, The Fast Show, Miranda, the Marx Brothers) smiles that shine from a beautiful heart, shared laughter, being delightfully surprised.

Aims at: -being a compassionate, non-judgemental, non-lemon-sucking Christian. So I don’t choose: being ‘religious’/pious/sanctimonious/narrow/extremist, or racism, ageism, sexism, (or any other prejudiced -ism or labels!), homophobia, intolerance, arrogance, badmouthing folks, hating or making anybody, whatever they do or don’t believe, feel bad about who they are. Jesus never did, IMHO.

-raising awareness of “invisible” struggles folks often turn their backs on or misunderstand e.g. M.E./CFS (CFIDS), Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Autism, Mental Illness, Depression, Anorexia, Bulimia, low self image and all the daily struggles that can bring, Diabetes, IBS, neuro-immune disease etc building on personal experience and those all over the world who are my friends and those who struggle with “invisible” conditions as I do.

-cherishing this stunning world where we live, celebrating and being thankful for every moment I’m alive, happy, sad, difficult, sick, barmy or beautiful

-not always being the last one to speak in a group cos I see and appreciate everybody else’s point of view more quickly than my own! (my work involves public speaking and all kinds of groups, so I’m used to appearing relaxed in that role, but when just being little old me, I’m the introvert I’ve always been!)

-not rising to the bait of becoming cynical

-seeing the very best in everybody and trying to help them do the same!
